An interview show from Frontier Desk

Cybernetic Age

Conversations with the people who run companies, advise them and fund them, about how they decide while software takes on more of the work and more of the world around it.

Hosted by Colton Moffitt.

A shift the size of the Industrial Age

Industrial machines moved matter and computers moved information. Software now closes the loop: it senses what is happening, decides, acts, measures the result and adjusts. That loop already runs inside companies, doing more of the work customers pay for, and it is reaching into how institutions are run, where power and capital sit, and how people work and live. What it does to a company's value, and to who will pay for it, is one part of a much larger change.

Each episode sits down with someone making real decisions inside it: owners of services and technology firms, the advisers who prepare them for a sale or a raise, and the investors and lenders who back them. We ask how they built what they run, what their clients, insurers and auditors now expect, and where they think the work is heading.

What we track across every conversation

Each interview is a record of judgment under change. We follow how leaders form a view, which beliefs and rules of thumb they rely on, and how they weigh speed against risk when software can act faster than the organization around it. When a call about what comes next is made on the show, we date it and score it against what happens, so the record shows which ways of deciding hold up.

  • How the decision gets made: the first questions asked, the evidence trusted, and who signs for the result.
  • The thinking behind it: the beliefs and working rules that carry from one decision to the next.
  • Calls against outcomes: dated forecasts, scored when they resolve.

Questions the first conversations take on

What we hear becomes a body of lessons, each tied to the evidence behind it and ordered by what a reader needs to understand first. The opening conversations start with questions owners and their advisers are already asking:

  • What a company is worth when software does much of its work, and who pays the most for it.
  • Who answers for a decision when software made it.
  • What owners miss before a sale or a raise, from the advisers who see it most often.
  • What clients, insurers and auditors now ask of managed IT and security firms.

Why it matters beyond any one firm

Each era changes who holds the advantage. In this one it moves toward whoever runs the tightest loop between what they decide, what happens next and what they learn from it, and that holds for a company, an institution or a career. The show turns those lessons into something an owner, an adviser or an investor can use on their next decision, with a scored record that shows which advice held up.
